Day 4 - Sunday, April 13,2008

Getting Sallted, Boiled, Peanuts-in-the-Shell, a tasty treat!

Left Knoxville Tenn. At 12:15

Temp: 59F

Winds 30Km W Rainy

Richard started the morning with the crabapple two-step, not a good thing when you’re anticipating 8 or 9 hours on a bike!

So...a late start, but no G I problems once we got rolling.

A last minute group decision, we decided to pass on Nashville because of the weather forecast along the I 40 and headed south to Chattanooga, Birmingham Alabama, and are heading for New Orleans. We should make the Big Easy tomorrow. The plan is to spend a little time there......party!!

The nature of the road kill has definitely changed. Common fare now is possum, wild turkey, armadillo…

The further south we went, the more layers we had to put on today. We are now in Meridian Mississippi and I had on everything I was wearing when I left home!

In southern Alabama we pulled into a small gas station and were introduced to a new taste treat…Boiled Salted Peanuts (spelled p-nuts), Interesting!?!?.....

Also in Alabama, we came across an interesting punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol….roadside garbage and trash pick-up crews wearing neon lime coloured vest with large print on the stating “I AM A DRUNK DRIVER”! ………very resourceful ….

Kilometers - Daytrip: 761 total: 2995

Gas: $33

Lodging: Super8 $60
