We're back in Nicaragua , Baby!

Scenes of early morning San José

Day 69 Tuesday June 17

Left San Jose, Costa rica
Temp: 25 degrees C
Sunny, light cloud

We were up and on the road before seven thirty. It paid off and we were through the city and on the Pan-American in about fifteen minutes. That may not sound too impressive but bear in mind that the traffic in San Jose has produced stories of epic proportions, and we were in the “going to work, rush hour traffic”.

The entire day was a glorious, sunny and cool ride,

G I distress had us making very regular stops of necessity and one of the stops was at the roadside stop “The Lazy Iguana” which had an amazing garden, fish pond and bird feeding station as well as a collection of iguanas.

This flower is called 'Granada" a member of the ginger family. It has a very waxy flower that grows to the size of a soccer ball. As the pedals open they hold water that hummingbirds love to feast on!

We enjoyed free Costa Rica coffee and coffee flavored toffee as we strolled around the garden…..What a lucky stop!

easily one of the best days we have had for a long time!

We were in Liberia by just past noon so we struck out for the border and beyond.

The border crossing was no big hassle but did take about an hour and a half, but we had made such good time that we decided to push on for Managua.

We got into Managua just as the sun was setting and lucked into the nice but slightly pricey Hotel Casa del Sol…..definitely worth it!

Showers, change of clothes, and dinner in the restaurant then back to the room for an unwind!

I highly recommend their “Chicken Archduke”.

Kilometers - Daytrip: 455km total: 15,268
Gas:
$ 31.80
Lodging: Hotel Casa del Sol $ 110
