Day 47 Monday May 26

Left Tela, Honduras 8:15 AM

Temp: 30 degrees C

Cloudy and Humid

Heavy thunderstorm all night but hardly a drizzle by morning and cooler than usual……

I was quite enjoying the change in temperature. It was so nice to hit the road without being in a full body dripping sweat by the time we started the bike!

We didn’t bother with breakfast or even coffee and made good time in spite of the mountains and road conditions. I was forced off the road once and onto the shoulder a dozen times but that’s getting commonplace now so there were only a few incidents that were scary. As I was weaving around obstacles on the road I was taking a mental inventory of all the hazards we’ve encountered on the road (literally “on”) so far…

Horses, dead and alive, cows dead and alive, Bulls dead and alive, donkeys dead and alive, pigs dead and alive, goats, humans dead and alive, dogs dead and alive, cats dead and alive, monkeys dead and alive, coatis dead and alive, armadillos, possums. Skunks, turkeys, vultures, unidentifiable rodents, lizards and iguanas, all dead…oh, and the big bird that hit my windshield this morning and almost took us off the road!

Not long after we passed the capitol, Tegucigualpa, the road turned into a narrow road in pretty rough shape all the way to Danli, to the point that I thought we had taken a wrong turn and were headed on a jungle road to nowhere, hardly anything on the way and a rough looking landscape.

We were very relieved when we finally spied Danli off in the distance.

We were settled in to a hotel with secure parking by four.

Day 46 Sunday May 25

No Travel Day

Tela, Honduras

Temp: 36 degrees C

Sunny

The day started with Sue spotting a commotion down on the beach. Off she went, camera in hand, to discover a local fisherman cleaning and cutting-up a catfish shark right on the beach! Apparently, the shark had got caught by the tide in a small pool and the fisherman was taking advantage of a good situation. Someone was going to have ‘shark’ for supper!

We had breakfast at the hotel, the usual; refried beans, cheese, eggs, ham, and fried plantain. Then off in search of the local internet to let everyone know that we were still alive.

Afterward, we came back to the hotel to get ready to hit the beach. Sue decided to take a little 10 minute nap and I decided to join her. Two hours later we woke up and headed for the beach. Lol

As usual the water was piss warm. ( Sue loves it)

We stretched out on the sand to get a little sun but did not stay long as the sand fleas chased us out.

Supper, then an early night as we plan to travel tomorrow.
