Day 85 Thursday July 3

Left El Cajon

Temp: 20 degrees C

Sunny

We had intended to go to sea world today but when we were doing research on it we discovered that it was more of a ‘theme park’ so off we headed for Long Beach and ‘the Aquarium of the Pacific” instead.

The day was cool starting out, and foggy. Sue thought it was smog but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. An hour down the road we were adding layers. WOW, what a difference from yesterday when we drove through the middle of the Mojave Desert in a record breaking heat!

We were cruising along at 120km, cool wind blowing, coastal mountains of the Santa Ana Range on one side and the Pacific on the other, what a way to spend a morning.

We found the aquarium without too much trouble. We parked close to 3 other bikes that were not even locked, their helmets and riding gloves were just set on top of their bikes. Either those people are very trusting or this place is very safe.

The aquarium is a ‘touristy’ place not to be missed. Well laid out, with lots of interactive programs, touch tanks, a very comprehensive collection of marine life hosting over 5000 species in accurate reproductions of their natural habitat!

We watched a 3D movie (a first for Susie) ‘Monsters of the Abyss”. What a planet we live on!

We stayed at the aquarium until they kicked us out and we started up the highway to find a place to crash. No trouble in that department. Lots of reasonably priced places here. (That’s something we did not expect)

Tomorrow we will travel through LA towards Santa Monica on the #1 coast highway.

Kilometres - Daytrip: 210 km total: 21,545
