Day Seven: Wed, April 16

Left New Orleans Louisiana at 11:15

Temp: 13 degrees C

Winds 9 Km SE Sunny

Left New Orleans on a warm sunny start, but cloudy from Baton Rouge clear through to San Antonio Texas. With some really strong crosswinds. Sue was checking her face out in the rear view mirror and said her cheeks were flapping and pushed back like those movie scenes with supersonic pilots.

The drive from Baton Rouge almost all the way to Lafayette was on bridge roads through bayou country, very close to 80 kms of divided two lane bridges! Incredible!

Not much to report today, a few awkward moments in bad traffic, a few false starts, a few more bugs…

Coming out of New Orleans onto the I 10 we came across a large ratty looking tent city of street people and transients under the Clairborn Ave. overpass.

But today we really lucked into some excellent food. There was an accident on the interstate just past Beaumont that had traffic practically at a standstill, hard to do in the middle of five lanes of traffic with a heavily loaded bike creeping along at 7km/hr. I decided we should pull off, wait out the jam with some food. Hardly off the interstate we came to a Taqueria Arrandas that had amazing Mexican food. The quality and quantity were 10 out of 10. We could hardly finish our portions, but it was so good we were reluctant to leave even the least scrap. And the price of Sue’s and my dinner…total…$12.31…and we’re not talking beans and rice either….

Houston is one hell of a BIG city!!

Kilometers - Daytrip: 580 total: 3896

Gas: $33.10

Lodging: Super8 $64.34
