Spent the day reorganizing our gear and sorting out things we could absolutely do without. We have already shipped home 38 pounds of gear and today we packed another 25lbs to ship tomorrow.

Space is limited due to the lack of large locking tour bags on the new bike, unlike the ones on the nomad, so from now on “minimalist” takes on a new meaning: basic camping gear, rain gear, one change of clothes, bath essentials, one book each, laptop and cameras.

I had to modify the leather back-rack bag and do some sewing with my glover’s needles to make things fit. It took us two or three attempts at bike packing before we had things pretty much properly sorted and arranged.

Then a couple of hours were spent trying to find information on how to obtain a travel plate or permit for the trip home through Canada until we can register it in NB. The Service NB website has no info on how to register and/or obtain a NB plate from out of province to drive an imported bike across Canada.

I don’t yet know if this is doable and no-one I’ve contacted seems to know either.

Tomorrow should be a busy, frustrating red tape run-around.
